5 Things Lauraville Residents Love About Their Neighborhood

The Live Baltimore team recently toured the Lauraville neighborhood in Northeast Baltimore, led by one of our very own, Partnership Manager Jordan Klumpp. Joined by members of the Lauraville Community Association and several neighbors, we learned five reasons why they have chosen to call Lauraville home for decades. Keep reading to learn more about the Lauraville neighborhood from the people who know it best.

1. Location, Location, Location

Lauraville is located in Northeast Baltimore near Herring Run Park and Morgan State University. Residents enjoy having proximity to the park and being able to access other parts of the city quickly. In addition, Lauraville’s geographic elevation allows some residents clear views of Downtown Baltimore.

“Speaking of Morgan State, another thing that I love is that I can hear the band from my porch. It is just so cool.”

–Anne Ramey, Director-At-Large, Lauraville Community Association

“I live at one of the highest points in the city, so when you’re there, you can look and see downtown. And that’s not a feature that a lot of communities have.”

–Rick Burton, Vice President, Lauraville Community Association

2. Thriving Tree Canopy

The Lauraville neighborhood is known for its lush, tree-lined streets. Residents take pride in the neighborhood’s thriving greenery. Many believe it to be “The Leafiest Neighborhood in Baltimore.”

“Those Sycamore trees! They make it cooler here. You can sit on the porch in the middle of August, and it’s 15 degrees cooler than it is out on the road.”

–Kathy, Lauraville resident

3. Close-Knit Neighbors

Many of the residents in Lauraville have lived in the community for decades, giving them ample time to get to know one another. Neighbors spend time together at weekly farmers’ markets and businesses within the area. Lauraville is also a designated Five Star Family Neighborhood. These neighborhoods were selected based on feedback and criteria generated from real city families.

“For me, I just love my neighbors. Like the eight houses around me, I know all of them… every time I meet new neighbors, it just makes me want to help the community more.”

–Anne Ramey

“We’ve raised our children here. And, fortunately, all of our kids and grandkids are within a couple of miles from here. And that’s another reason we won’t leave.”

–Larry Martin, Lauraville resident

4. Businesses Along Harford Road

With a walkability score of 72, Lauraville residents can take advantage of their easy commute to several businesses along its eastern border, Harford Road. Neighbors can meet each other for food and drinks at establishments like Zeke’s Coffee, The Den, BeeGee’s Lounge, and the famous Koco’s Pub, known for having some of the best crab cakes in Baltimore. They can also do their grocery shopping at Safeway or the weekly Main Street Farmers’ Market at The Lot, a multi-use event space.

“I love the walkability. We walk everywhere. You can walk up to Harford Road to bus stops and restaurants.”

–Gil, Lauraville resident

5. The Annual Lauraville Fair

Every September, the Lauraville Community Association hosts a fair full of local entertainment, food and drink vendors, local art vendors, other nearby community associations, crafts, and more! This year, the neighborhood celebrates its 39th Annual Lauraville Fair.
