Use your location to find which neighborhood you're in?
Sorry, we couldn't find a neighborhood at your current location.
It’s no secret. The reputation of Baltimore City Public Schools in recent decades has been less than favorable. And while we’re quick to acknowledge that some schools still struggle, we’ve witnessed others quietly thriving. Too few residents are aware of the successes many schools have seen over the past five years. But, couple the growing trend of “walking to” neighborhood schools with the district’s 21st Century New School Buildings Plan and there’s good reason for parents to give the public zoned option another look.
We encourage you to consider the following group of schools when investigating elementary options for your child. Public elementary schools on this list benefit from strong foundation, corporate, and/or community group support; are experiencing steady growth in enrollment (due to parent demand); are in many cases more diverse (both racially and economically) than the district average; and have high percentages of students performing at an advanced level.
We’ve spoken to school board members, community associations, parent groups, and insiders at Baltimore City Schools. We’ve toured the buildings, met with the principals, and compiled the statistics experts and parents tell us are most important when selecting a school.
Just like choosing a neighborhood, the best way to choose a school is to explore it firsthand. Connect with parents whose children attend each school through our School Know-It-All program, reach out to area parent groups for recommendations, and contact schools directly to arrange tours.
