Transportation & Parking
You have many options to get from here to there in and around the city. From the subway to the light rail and all the buses in between, figuring out how to get around town is easier than you think!
Bus
The Maryland Transit Administration provides comprehensive transit options for folks traveling in and around the Baltimore Metropolitan Area. If you’re looking for ways to get around town, the MTA is a good place to start. If you’re a frequent rider, you may want to get a Charm Card, a credit card-sized rechargeable fare card that eliminates the need for paper tickets and change. Never miss a bus again with MTA’s bus tracker tool, which shows buses approaching your stop in real time.
Charm City Circulator
The Charm City Circulator is a free bus and water taxi service that serves areas around Downtown, the Inner Harbor, and the Charles Street corridor. Check out the Circulator’s website to see if there’s a Circulator stop in your neighborhood!
Metro, Light Rail, MARC Train
Three types of trains travel in and around Baltimore City. Hop on the Metro to travel from Johns Hopkins Hospital, through Northwest Baltimore and Downtown, all the way to Owings Mills in Baltimore County. Take a Light Rail from Oriole Park at Camden Yards and Ravens Stadium, through North and Central Baltimore, to major cultural institutions, all the way to Hunt Valley in Baltimore County. Light Rail will also transport you to BWI Airport. Head out of Baltimore’s Penn Station or West Baltimore MARC station to arrive in Washington DC in as little as 35 minutes.
Zipcar
Zipcar affords city residents the option of living without a car. Hop in a Zipcar to get out of town occasionally or to run errands that prove too cumbersome for mass transit. Zipcar parking spaces are located strategically around the city for easy access. Visit Zipcar’s website, sign up for a membership, and you’ll be on your way.
Uber/Lyft
Car sharing is the easy way to ride in style. Download the Uber or Lyft apps to your smartphone, request a ride from anywhere in the city, and within minutes your driver will take you where you need to go. A fee is charged directly to your credit card. You can even split the fare with another rider right in the app!
Walk
Want to check out The Walters Art Museum in Mount Vernon, get dinner Downtown and catch an O’s game at Camden Yards—all without worry over parking? No problem. Many parts of Baltimore are highly navigable on foot. Walk neighborhood to neighborhood, museum to sporting event, or restaurant to bar with ease.
Bike
Baltimoreans are pretty serious about cycling and it is never more evident than at the Baltimore Bike Party. This monthly event draws thousands of cyclists who gather en masse and take over the city streets.
You can find out more about Bike Party and other aspects of Baltimore bike culture by connecting with Bikemore, Baltimore’s local bike advocacy organization. Bikemore provides information on events, trails and bike paths, safety, and other topics pertinent to city cyclists.
Scoot
A number of scooter share companies have come to Baltimore City in recent years. Lime, Spin, Bolt and JUMP are each among Baltimore’s private dockless vehicle options. Download the apps to find a scooter available for riding. When you’re finished, safely park your scooter out of the way for the next rider to use.
Drive
Some city neighborhoods require parking permits. Parking decals are distributed through neighborhood associations or the Parking Authority. To find out more about residential parking permits and to see of map of residential permit areas, visit the Parking Authority of Baltimore City.
