Data Sources

Live Baltimore collects and shares data from sources like the U.S. Census, the State of Maryland, and the City of Baltimore.

Here’s how we’ve determined the main data points listed on our neighborhood profile pages.

Estimated Mortgage

Estimated Mortgage is calculated using neighborhoods’ Median Home Purchase Price. We assume a 3% down payment, a 7% mortgage interest rate, a 0.38% insurance rate, and a property tax rate of $2.248 for every $100 of assessed property value.

Estimated Rent

Estimated Rent data comes from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.

Median Home Purchase Price

Median Home Purchase Price is calculated from multiple-listed, standard sales transactions in the most recent calendar year. Standard sales exclude REO’s, Auctions, 3rd Party Approval, and other similar transactions.

Home Types

Home Types are determined from State Department of Assessment and Taxation data.

Own vs. Rent

Own vs. Rent data comes from the 2020 U.S. Census.
