4 Reasons Why Hunting Ridge May Be the Perfect Neighborhood for You
Hunting Ridge is a neighborhood of well-cared-for homes and gardens in Southwest Baltimore, developed in 1926. This green and historic community is home to several longtime residents who continue to love it now, just as much as they did when they moved in decades ago. Not only did these neighbors give us a guided walking tour of their community, but they graciously allowed our team into their homes to discuss exactly why Hunting Ridge is the perfect neighborhood for them. Read along to discover some of the things we learned.
Supportive Neighbors
All of the Hunting Ridge neighbors that we had the pleasure of meeting have all lived in the neighborhood for at least 10 years, and a few of them have been there for 30+ years! Residents report that “People are invested here,” and they genuinely help each other whenever they can by dropping off meals, helping shovel snow or trim the lawn, reporting break-ins, etc. Whenever someone new moves in, their Welcome Committee drops off a welcome packet with info, a card, and their branded tote bag. They go out of their way to show new neighbors how to be a village.
Proximity to Amenities & Commuter Routes
Hunting Ridge’s location in Southwest Baltimore allows quick access to Downtown Baltimore and is a 15-minute drive to BWI. Residents also enjoy having Gwynns Falls/Leakin Park as their northern border. In addition to this, the neighborhood is close to major highways like 40, 70, and 695, while still retaining a green, country feel.
Historic Designation & Upkeep
The Hunting Ridge neighborhood stretches from Swann to Cooks Lane, and from Franklintown to Edmondson. As 75% of it is part of the CHAP-designated historic district, many of the houses don’t have fences or bars on their windows and only use historic paint colors. Their neighborhood association also recognizes a neighbor for their “Yard of the Month” award with a celebratory lawn sign.
An Active Community Association
Speaking of the community association, the Hunting Ridge Community Association is extremely active in the neighborhood. They organize annual events such as their fall and spring meetings, a summer cookout, a Halloween parade, the holiday progressive dinner, National Night Out, and many block parties. Throughout the year, they host a book club, a walking club, and an invitation-only wine club. Additionally, the Hunting Ridge Community Assembly also maintains an active newsletter, website, social media pages, and an email listserv.
