Auchentoroly-Parkwood
Auchentoroly-Parkwood, also referred to as Auchentoroly Terrace or Mondawmin, is a vibrant and diverse community situated between the Mondawmin Subway Metro Station and Druid Hill Park. Built between 1876 and the 1920’s, the neighborhood features an impressive collection of Victorian-era architecture complementing Druid Hill Park’s romantically inspired, natural landscape. In addition to transit and green space, residents enjoy extraordinary amenities including robust shopping at Mondawmin Mall, a full-service supermarket, the Rawlings Conservatory, the Maryland Zoo, the Druid Hill Farmers Market and educational opportunities from elementary school to college.
Generations of hardworking, caring and creative residents have made political, educational and artistic history along the area's grand streets. In 1958, Verda Welcome founded the Mondawmin Neighborhood Improvement Association. She would go on to be elected as Maryland's first black woman State Delegate and then State Senator, proudly representing the interests of West Baltimore from 1958 to 1982. The Mondawmin Neighborhood Improvement Association and the New Auchentoroly Terrace Association continue to advocate for the neighborhood and organize cookouts, clean ups and block parties throughout the year.
