Irvington ZIP codes: 21229
Irvington is an unassuming neighborhood where upon entering, you are surprised by the large, beautiful homes! This neighborhood has a lot of green space and is near many local cemeteries. Because of its shape and size, this neighborhood’s streets seem to meander sleepily until you suddenly reach a main road such as Frederick or Caton Avenues. Irvington is very family-focused and the residents hold many charitable events throughout the year such as a Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Basket Delivery, back-to-school fair, and community flea market. The neighborhood association also sponsors a C.O.P walk in which the neighborhood volunteers to walk the streets to report any suspicious activity, once a month. Today, Irvington contains a three-block business district with bustling stores, but also has deep Baltimore commerce history. Irvington and the surrounding neighborhoods were once called “the Hunting Ridge” by European immigrants. Irvington actually began when a road was built to connect Frederick Town and Baltimore in 1765. This road enabled people to travel back and forth and sell goods in downtown Baltimore.
