Garrett Heights Elementary / Middle School

Principal Keisha Matthews-Traynham started her career as a middle school science and mathematics teacher in Baltimore City Public Schools. Over her 18-year career she has served as both a school-based and district academic coach, the science/STEM coordinator for Baltimore City Public Schools, the curriculum coordinator for the Maryland State Department of Education for the division of College and Career Readiness and, prior to coming to GHEM, was Director of School Support for the Achievement Network where she supported and coached several schools in Baltimore City. She believes a collaborative school environment is key to supporting student learning and that partnerships with parents and community partners are essential to creating a nurturing and supportive culture to enriching the experience of teaching and learning at Garrett Heights Elementary Middle School.

Principal Matthews-Traynham has a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and a master's degree in education and administration from Drexel University. She is also pursuing a doctorate degree in education from Morgan State University.
