About Hampden Elementary/Middle School

Located in the home of HonFest and Hairspray, Hampden Elementary/Middle School has served as the community's neighborhood school since 1914. Hampden EMS serves an incredibly diverse population and has a rich, proud history of leveraging neighborhood support to supporting student growth and achievement. Hampden EMS's motto is "We are inventing the future!" The school has anchored itself as one of City Schools' premier STEM schools. As a result, students who attend Hampden EMS consistently meet and exceed the district and state expectations for yearly progress as measured by standardized assessments.

Meet the Principal

Katrina Foster currently serves as the principal of Hampden Elementary/Middle School #55. A proud graduate of Baltimore City Public Schools, she served as a Teach for America Corps Member teaching high school English, an instructional support teacher, an assistant principal and principal before becoming principal of Hampden EMS.

Over six years as principal Principal Foster has cultivated a positive, learning-focused culture that has produced an increase in student attendance and overall academic achievement. She firmly believes that education is the key to igniting social change, and she is committed to working relentlessly to ensure that all of her students achieve their fullest potential. Foster earned her bachelor's degree in English, writing and rhetoric from Pepperdine University, a master's degree in teaching, a certificate in school administration and supervision and a doctorate degree in education from the Johns Hopkins University School of Education. She lives with her husband and son in Northwest Baltimore City.
