About Mount Royal Elementary/Middle School

Mount Royal Elementary/Middle School is truly a school with a passion for excellence and for developing young minds. School staff strives to see that students are exposed to the very best, including a curriculum that supports the acquisition of knowledge and academic growth, as well as a safe and orderly learning environment. Mount Royal is an Arts Integration School, meaning that there is an art component infused in classroom instruction on a daily basis. Lucky to have MICA right next door, college students frequently join in various hands-on art projects. Mount Royal Middle is one of only three Ingenuity Project schools in Baltimore City.

Meet the Principal

Principal Stephen Skeen is the principal at Mount Royal Elementary/Middle School. He aims to encourage exciting learning experiences that propel and inspire students to break through barriers and achieve greatness. Before joining the Mount Royal community in July 2018, he worked as a math coach with the Baltimore City Schools District Office. He’s also worked as a resident principal at Patterson Park Public Charter School, a math coach at Gilmor Elementary School and a fourth-grade teacher at William Paca Elementary school. Principal Skeen holds a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications from Elon University and a master’s degree in urban education and school leadership from the Johns Hopkins University.
